Ive always loved the outdoors though Ive never become a true sportsman. Its a very expensive game. It has a great deal of romanticism built into it which is why Ive always been fascinated by the sportsmans world. Fly fishing, wing shooting, double guns, hunting lodges a world of elite recreation with fine appointments.
The fly fisherman perhaps enjoys the most idyllic and romantic setting of all sportsman. A cool trout stream, the challenge of a native opponent not easily fooled, the graceful flow of a fly line in flight the release of the captured opponent for another day, another game a happy ending.
Fly fishing is a slow and thoughtful sport, untarnished by speed, noise, electronics, races, or making money. Thats probably how it evolved into such an expensive, elitist endeavor.
If one has abundant time to spend being a sportsman or fly fisherman, then one probably has no worries with money. The natural thing to do then is think about things. Thought about a sport, combined with abundant time and money, and romantic idyllic settings, yields one-of-a-kind equipment, with fine appointments, ultra high quality, and exotic materials. In a word, refinement. Refinement is expensive.
Of course anyone can participate in fly fishing. Equipment can be had at Wal-Mart. But to immerse ones self in the Sportsmans realm of fly fishing, one must become romantically attached to the game, the opponent, the biology, and the use of finer gear. Saving money, if it means exiting the Sportmans realm, is not an option.
